Bad Ischl - "The thermal spa of your dreams"

The emperor Francis Josef I and his wife Sissi often spent their holidays in Bad Ischl, staying, as they did, in the imperial villa (Kaiservilla) in the Kaiserpark. This Biedermeier style villa is located in on extensive park grounds and the most famous guest of Bad Ischl spent nearly sixty summers of his life. Today the stairs of the Kaiservilla are opened to the public and all are invited to enjoy a trip down the corridors of history.
Here visitors can admire various artefacts, including a collection of hunting trophies, belonging to the emperor. Of particular interest is the imperial bedroom and the desk on which the Emperor signed the famous document "An meine Völker" (To my peoples). Bad Ischl was used by the Imperial Family to mark many occasions of family life. The villa played host to the celebration of many engagements and weddings and as well as to the funerals of family members and friends. The beauty of the villa coupled with the history it contains makes Bad Ischl a place full of magic where visitors can feel the echoes of the past in every room.

Information about the museum

Today Bad Ischl offers, apart from attraction of Lake Wolfgangsee, many activities throughout the year. The annual “Katrin Berglauf” run, organized for the first time in 1995, is now in its seventh year running. This famous run to the “Katrin” Alpine hut takes place in June and is a real challenge for all competitors.
The “Katrin” Alpine hut is situated 1450 m above sea level. This makes the run a real challenge. But it is always worth it when it ends with a traditional “Zauner” snack and a visit of the Kaisertherme Spa where you can enjoy a cornucopia of food and drink in a picturesque atmosphere. Children will be also be delighted with the special children’s competition at “Katrin”.

Winter in Bad Ischl has an unlimited range of sports and fun to offer. Skiing on the "Katrin Alm" is not the only popular sport in Bad Ischl. You can also enjoy the pleasure of ice-skating on Lake Nussensee or in the ice-rink.
Bad Ischl awaits you with 40 km of cross-country trails, toboggan runs, a skiing school and extensive winter-hiking tracks. To top it all off, just image the romance of a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh – Bad Ischl has everything to offer.

The “Kaiser Terme” thermal spa and the famous "Weisse Rössl" Inn are the major attractions in Bad Ischl. In the “Kaiser Terme” spa guests are pampered by the experts. Lake Wolfgangsee is perfect for a swim at any time of the year. A heated swimming pool is also located near the lake with a water temperature of 30°C – total relaxation for body and mind.

Over 500 years ago, the first guests received the food and welcome of St. Wolfgang at the pilgrimage church. In 1878 the "Weisse Rössl" inn and guesthouse was opened. Since then, three generations have run this family owned guesthouse. Every year the emperor visited Bad Ischl, as well as other important people such as the writers Oskar Blumenthal and Gustav Kadelburg. It was here that Kadelburg composed the operetta about the waiter who fell in love with the beautiful landlady.
The "Im Weissen Rössl" operetta was first staged in November 1930 at the great “Festspielhaus” in Berlin. Since then, "Weisse Rössl" has been on tour around the whole world describing the magic and romance of a holiday on the lake Wolfgangsee.
Today the guests of the “Romantikhotel im Weissen Rössl “ enjoy a welcoming atmosphere, hospitality, comfort and excellent service - far away from the hustle and bustle of St. Wolfgang.
